Module 2: Defining Urban Resilience

This module will help you delve into the concept of urban resilience, what it means and its origins, which have shaped contemporary urban planning and policy. You will develop the ability to distinguish between shocks (sudden, acute events) and stresses (chronic, long-term pressures), and understand their unique impacts on urban systems. You will discover the qualities that contribute to a system's resilience. Additionally, you will understand how the concept of urban resilience has evolved over time, influenced by various historical events, academic research, and policy developments. Duration: 20 mins

Module 3: Understanding Risk

This module will help you understand the key components of urban risk and how they are interconnected. You will learn to integrate urban risk assessments into decision-making processes and apply tools and frameworks to mitigate risks effectively, building urban resilience across diverse scenarios. Module 4: Evolution of Urban Resilience – From Theory to Practice

Module 5: Case Study Module – OASIS Schoolyard Initiative

This module is case study for all the resilience concepts we've studied so far. You will understand the need for OASIS, identify its goals and achievements, and analyse its main components. This will help you link OASIS to the resilience concepts previously covered, demonstrating how it exemplifies these principles in practice. Duration: 20 mins

Module 6: Understanding the CRO Role and the Key Qualities of a CRO

This module delves into the critical role of Chief Resilience Officers (CROs) in helping cities navigate complex challenges, ranging from climate risks to social and economic disruptions. It examines the evolving responsibilities of CROs, the diverse typologies that shape their approaches, and the essential leadership traits that empower them to drive resilience initiatives effectively. Duration: 20 mins

Bonus Module: The Health Impacts of a Changing Climate

This bonus module will introduce you to the intersection of climate change, public health, and equity, with a focus on vulnerable communities. In this introductory module, you will explore how climate change impacts public health, the key health challenges it poses, and the critical role cities play in addressing these issues.
